I am in awe. I traveled this bridge just about everyday, it's my normal commute to work. You honestly can't tell from the images how long this span of bridge is - it goes so much farther than just the span of the river itself. And when it's packed with cars, there are way more than 50 vehicles that can fit into 4 lanes of traffic. It was a miracle there was construction going on, or it would have been 8 lanes, and yes, even when there's 8 open lanes it is just as busy on that stretch of road.
As for children, there are none confirmed as of yet, but among the missing is a woman and her young daughter who I believe was maybe 2 or 3. She was also 5 months pregnant with her second child.

So far, the death toll is five, all adults. I am not really surprised at the survival though. This bridge though "structurally bad" was built well enough that the large pieces remained together even during the collapse and after impact. It could have been much worse, if the entire bridge had just crumbled, but that would have taken a lot of pressure and the bridge would not have lasted as long as it did if it was that weak.

I actually am suprised, I know that where I live there is a lot of water, and the bridges have to be higher. I am afraid that if this happens here, there will not be many survivors-due to the drop into the water. It is sad to say that, but is true. I am glad that this has put a rush on every state to do bridge inspections now, not just a check. I do not know of any children being killed.

I do think it is a miracle people did survive it but as others said the death toll will rise once they recover the bodies in the water as well as on the ground underneath the collapsed bridge.

The dead will be in the cars in the water. They haven't gotten them out yet. I'm not sure that survivors will end up being the majority but I hope so.

I'm afraid the number of dead will far outweigh the survivors. Too many are still in the water and have not been recovered.

From the few that they listed there were none, but there could be some in the cars that fell but I hope not.
