Because when human strength fails, you need a higher power to help you. Really we should remember God at all times, the fact that one is alive is a reason to celebrate his goodness.

When you commune with him regularly then when trouble comes, you are secure in the knowledge that you have a relationship with him and he would see you through your problems.

Usually we remember or turn to God when there is no one, at the moment, for us to turn to. It is human behavior to rationalize and anazlyze a situation and when our rationalizing doesn't give us the answer we'd prefer or an incomplete one we turn to an alternative. God becomes equivocal to hope-a symbolic figure for faith in successfully completing or getting through difficulties. God is the quiet conscience that let's us say whatever we're feeling, fearing, and hoping wihtout having a disapproving taste of doubt or embarassment. One would rather have a quick conversation with God, than an objective one with their own parents who can reply from a direct and outside perspective. God is the comforting inner voice and morals people tend to turn to.

When you were young, you learned about God, an invincible and caring immaterial entity. Whenever a human being is facing difficulties, they tend to look for caring from a motherly being who can comfort them. In some cases, the being can be friends; and in this case, God is the motherly figure. I think this question is entirely psychological instead of philosophical.

i would only say this we remember god or gods when we are in difficulties because we have no faith in that what we can do for ourselves and believe a greater power is needed and so we turn to or make up a greater power hence the concept of gods

I do not remember any gods at any time, for there is no proof that they exist, whether one believes in Yahweh the deity of Moses, Brahma of Hinduism, the Flying Sphaghetti Monster or whatever. I think of getting myself out of difficulty, because there is no one else, on this earth or in the sky, to do it.

i think because mostly, difficulties steers us to the direction of God, and most of the time, difficulties are the only moments that we turn to God. so if there are no difficulties, problems in life, would we trun to God for anything else? =)

Because God is in control of everything, and some situations are beyond our control. During difficulties when we are overwhelmed, we pray so that we can better cope or find a solution.

God controls everything during good times too, we just lose sight of that fact sometimes....and prefer to just enjoy it without thanking him for it.

We seemingly are each hypocrites whom remember our base connection with an Ultimate being in moments of stress.

[ However, the next time I hear a Yank woman emit either the often 'sreeeeched' words 'Oh, My God,' or the written 'O.M.G.', then I'll go for the jugular with the nearest weapon available. ]
