...would have written a different article than this if Clemens played for any other MLB team?

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=270802110&action=playvideo&hcmp=motion

I see almost NOTHING negative about Clemens in that article - what gives?

Well, seeing as he would have been a red sox if he wasn't a yankee, that pretty much makes me 110% sure they wouldn't have written that article the same way. I am sure there would be alot more written about his below .500 record, and him giving up all those runs in his 1 and 2/3 innings of work the other day.

While I agree with you that ESPN definitely has an East-Coast bias, I think that that article was fair. It was an article reporting on the game. I did not see anything that was in any way an opinion about Clemens' performance yesterday - good or bad. They simply were reporting the story. I don't think that this type of article is the place for criticism or praise. They simply reported the facts of the game. I think the article would be written in the same style even if Clemens were pitching for another team, if it was a different Yankees pitcher that started, or if it was a different pitcher on a different team.

i've got not got a great beef with ESPN different than that their coverage is unquestionably predictable. If even the slightest (and that i emphasize slightest) little incident happens with a great industry team, this is lead information for days. this is sickening. i do no longer prefer to pay attention approximately how the Patriots won yet another game, or how A-Rod have been given caught in a strip club. those are boring memories that even maximum non-activities followers are responsive to, so why the hell do certainly activities followers gazing the coach prefer to pay attention approximately it returned? It is senseless. My well-known team has long been the St. Louis Cardinals, and that they get snubbed with the help of ESPN a lot. My Blues (who're doing astounding this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days too) have had approximately 10 seconds of air time subsequently some distance. The Rams prevailing 3 of their final 4? Oh, that doesn't count because of the fact they have been undesirable for the 1st a million/2. They pander to the truthful-climate fan fairly. in the event that they convey returned hockey i'm going to offer them some slack, yet suitable now they are milking loose college athletics and the NFL for all they are worth and it disgusts me.

1. It's an AP article. The same article given by hundreds of publications around the county.
2. It's about $$$. ESPN/FOX SPORTS/ whatever give so much attention to the Yankees cause that's what the MAJORITY of baseball fans want to see. Anytime the Yankees are on tv, ratings go UP!

Hats off to Redtribe for his diaTRIBE! He's venting a bit, but otherwise right on the money. Not only IS ESPN completely myopic when it comes to Baseball (their vision 85% focused on only two teams), but I have seen countless ESPN personalities, past and present such as Jim Rome, Michael Wilbon, and Tony Kornheiser, all accuse the producers of Sports Center and Baseball Tonight of this. It's pretty much a fact that the rest of us baseball fans have to live with until another rivalry takes center stage. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. As for Clemens, I personally think that with one or two more performances like this, and even ESPN articles will start eluding that it's time for this guy to at long last put his glove on the shelf...for good.

ESPN is very biased. All they care about are the Yankees and Red Sox. They do write a little bit about other teams but they don't really care about them. The Yankees and Red Sox are always on the front page no matter what and the Indians(and many other teams)have to do something special to be there. Here's a comment ESPN made that was extremely stupid "The Indians celebrated the 17th birthday of Slider, their furry, purple, annoying mascot." How do they know he's annoying? If it was Wally the Green Monster or a Yankees mascot(they don't have one) they'd have a whole article on happy birthday to them describing how great they are.

Also they said Kenny Lofton started in CF for the Indians for the first time since 2001. They said he had been playing DH since he arrived in Cleveland. Wrong! He has been playing left field. That just shows that ESPN doesn't have a clue when it comes to other teams.

of course they are, just watch them for 5 minutes, the Yankees are even as close to the race but they still get more coverage than any other team, and they won't even admit it they just say it's because we have alot more fans, I would at least admit it if it were my team was getting bias towards them, but that's just me. I guess fair isn't in their vocabulary.

They should maybe focus on the teams in the hunt for the playoffs more than a team with an old pitcher who only pitched 1.2 innings and gave up 8 runs and 9 hits, the way Yahoo has it you think they won, and EPSN of course does that too. I don't care if it is from the AP networks like ESPN and Fox Sports run the articles because they are close to New York and mostly are Yankees fans. They might as well call it the Yankees news network.

There are other teams in the MLB doing better and closer to the race for the playoffs but they don't get as much coverage.

ESPN is to sports what the Enquierer is to journalism.

Who knows. They make a big deal out of the fact Rodriguez didn't hit number 500, but nothing about Clemens, who is supposed to be one of the greatest pitchers of all time. Personally, the writer is probably afraid of Clemens, and doesn't want to tick him off.

just my theory (okay, it's really to early in the morning)

Look - if you watch ESPN - or if you go to their web site - you get what you pay for! The best way to avoid their crap is..... to avoid it! There are plenty of other places to get highlights and stories.
Remember - most of your high cable or dish bill is to cover the cost of ESPN! So before you get excited that they have MLB, NBA, NFL and Nascar - remember who is paying their way - you are..

If you don't like it, go to another website or change the channel. I can never understand why people can't grasp that concept. It's like when people would complain about Howard Stern or Opie and Anthony. If you don't like, don't listen. Not too hard. Guess what, I hate rap music. You know what I do....I don't listen to those stations....I don't know how I ever came up with that idea, but it works!
