there are lot of virus in my computer and none of the antivirus is working properly.I would like to format my computer.please help me with the procedure for formatting.

1. make back-ups of all files you want to keep (like your word documents, your e-mail, movies, etcetera)
2. put the WindowsXP CD in the drive, and boot from the CD. When installing, choose to erase the harddrive completely.
3. after installation, install a decent virusscanner as one of the first things you do. Update the virusscanner to the latest version (AVG is good and free, available from http://free.grisoft.com)
4. put the backups back in place, and do a full scan of your system (so you'll be certain none of the files you have put back from your backup will have a virus).

If it's Windows XP just boot from the windows disk and watch all the questions carefully. When asked choose the option - Format using the NTFS File System (Quick)

Restart>F8>Comand Promt(Select it)>Select 'Start Computer in Comand Promt'>write 'format*.*>Enter.
It will format the disk.If u have multiple disk or partition on the disk Save ur important files in that disk/partition.
It is advisable to save files in a pen drive & format fully.
After formatting you have to install Windows & Office again.

Just One thing to tell you If you delay to format your PC you have to delay because each and every time you format your HDD, your hard drive's age decrease.
And I suggest to re-partition to your Hard drive.
but the solution for formation HDD.
there are two method for formating hard drive
1/- by using Command prompt(Dos mode) using dos boot-able CD of floppy.
2/-by using boot-able CD of windows 98 or XP
You have to put you bootable cd on your cd rom then restart your PC. remember in you BIOS configuration primary or first boot device section CD-ROM is selected.
then your PC boot autometically by your Bootable CD. and for Windows, nothing to do much just follow the instruction.
If you using DOS boot- then these steps have to take-
first type your CD rom drive(like g:, e:)
then type format c:
then next option use press Y
then entern your volume name
do same for every drive like d:, e:, f:
just one thing to remember thet in DOS mode unformating is very easy...
when you want to go one step back....just after you format the drive.... type unformat ---enter
for you virus infection problem I want to suggest the paid version of any anti virus software(Mc afee, quick heal, Norton, Panda, etc) because of the free-version of anti virus has limitation of virus protection.

Udate your antivirus and scan your coputer in safe mode. After you remove virus, I recommend you use firefox browser. It is safer than IE. It can prevent viruses such as worm,trojan and etc. The newest official edition of firefox can be downloaded from http://www.mollzia.com

You need the Original Operating System Installation Disc. Put it in and follow the instructions.

Go to Boot mode and type FDisk.
Then all of your HDD Data will be deleted. (In other words formatted)
Then You must build new drives for your hard.

If You have to format through, Win Xp , First get win xp bootable, then Set first boot device as Cd-rom in CMOS setup. than when it will ask to press any key to boot that you press enter. After that it will ask you to press enter to continue and R to repair that time you have to press enter.
After that it will ask you to press F8 to agree the agreement,
Esc to not to agree. that time you press F8. If you already have a Win xp , it will ask you to Press Enter Key to continue, R to repair,F3 to quit, Press Enter key, And You will see your partiation Del all your partiation than, than create one partiation of 10g.b or on your mind but minimum of 5Gb y, And sel to first partiation ,Xp will get over after installing that time you have to go in manage, By right clicking my computer, in Manage Disk management that time you create your rest of the partiation first make extended partion full, After that logical drive on your mind

first u take a bootable service pack cd den format ur all partitions n create a new partitions as u wish wat u want how may den install a xp
