Good question. You know, to tell the truth, I'm the only person I know of who is actually "ecclectic" in every sense of the word. My tastes run the full spectrum of just about everything. I think it's just another word people like to use to make themselves appear cool. At one time, being ecclectic in the true sense was nearly socially inacceptable. So if you didn't hide what your tastes really were, you refrained from mentioning it, in an attempt to box yourself in with all the homogeneous, "cardboard cut-outs" of people.
