depends on what anti-virus program you have
some will have a update button to click (check for updates) some may have a live update thing
should be on main page for your anti-virus program

It really depends on who your Virus Software is with.
If Norton it is Live Update. McAfee will let you check to make sure you have the latest, But if you don't have a Virus Software Installed you need one.

You don't need to do that, unless your anti-virus does not update itself directly from the net. Go to your anti-virus company's website and look for virus definition files.
