They are in the kitchen cabinets and clothes closets. Is there a safer solution than using pesticide ?

No, unfortunately you'll have to use pesticide. Nothing else works.
You'll also have to thoroughly wash everything and keep it scrupulously clean after you've let the pesticide work for a few hours.
You have my sincerest sympathy. Ants are just the WORST.

I use pine ammonia in a spray bottle, use it straight or dilute 75%-25% Pine-water respectfully. Then take the straight pine and spray/pour heavy around your outside at the foundation.
This should get rid of the ants and keep them away for the season, redo when the season starts again.
Use a store brand pine since you will be using a lot of it on the perimeter of the home.

I know this is expensive but just call the buginater because trust me we used to have ants and we tried everything and we just could not get rid of them then we finally called the exterminated and he came a few months ago and we have not seen a single ant since.

Probably not. Try a product like RAID ant and roach killer.
