You do know, that there is a Federal Bridge Program, right ?
Where the Federal government pays 50% of the cost of bridge repairs, the states pay the other 50%.
Since 1990, not one state has used all thier federal matching funds to repair bridges.
From your question, you sound like you think the federal government should be responsible for all bridges and roads.
When currently states are responsible for bridges and roads.
So you really need to be talking to your state representatives and governor.
The federal government has put the funding out there, the states just aren't using it.

Sadly, there's only a limited budget for highway repair. In a perfect world that bridge would have been repaired ASAP. However, since there hasn't been a major bridge collapse in the US for quite some time, there wasn't much of a public outcry for it. And remember, we as a public only care about things when a major crisis happens. Think most of us cared about Afghanistan pre 9/11? Now, we're fighting 2 wars over it. Rest assured, all the other bridges are going to get an overhaul a lot sooner than if this tragedy didn't occur.

OK . I'll explain this to you 1 time and then you move on to something else . The bridge repair is the STATE'S RESPONSIBILTY . The Federal government allocates funds for the states to be used ONLY for bridge building and repair . The individual states decide which bridges to repair . The federal government also allocates more money when requested .

Oh for crying out loud, people are getting to the point they are going to blame the Feds for their heartburn sighhh.... What ever happened to the responsibility of STATE officials? What are they doing with their funds gained from all the taxes on the price gas everybody is crying about? You are right it's crazy, that the local and state governments aren't taking care of their own.

The Federal Government is not responsible for the disaster because bridge repair is not their responsibility.

The federal government doesn't care what is happening in the USA. They only take your money and give it to other countries. If they were concerned with the security in the USA, they would have secured the borders, updated the infrastructures ( bridges, sewer, flood walls, water lines, etc). We would have affordable health care and prescriptions instead of making the health care industry billionaires.
The pentagon can't account for 19 billion dollars given to Iraq. If you don't pay your taxes so they can give it away, you will go to jail.

You aren't going to get any money from the feds.
The states gets millions every year in highway funds!~ What are they doing with them? We know what they are not doing with them!
How do you do surface repair work on a bridge and never check the bridge?

The federal government may have inspected it, but it is not their job to fix it. They report the condition of the bridge and make recommendations, but it is ultimately up to the local/state government to fix it.

Local government is responsible for local infrastructure. Someone in the mayors office has the last inspection report.
