Restart your PC, then immediately press Del or F2 on the keyboard. If BIOS menu opens, your keyboard is ok and it is your OS that is messed up. Try repairing your OS.

Plugging and unplugging some devices while ON can result to error problems that cause PC to freeze or restart.

No your computer will not crash...you can unplug and plug it again.
You need to know whether the same keyboard and mouse are working fine with other computer as well or not ..if they are working fine then you need to check your system for viruses.

My last computer did this ( it was an E Machines ) and I really hate to tell you this but, mine did that for a few weeks and then one day I turned it off for the day and went to turn it back on and it had no power at all. I was never able to get it to come back on, I ended up having to buy a new computer and My new one isn't an Emachines lol. I will never buy an Emachines computer again, they are junk. So I really suggest taking it in to get it looked at before it crashes completely.
