Very doubtful, the government has sent this country to pot, with all their silly councils and their ridiculous immigrant policy. The place looks a mess, crime is higher, everywhere is dirty and its not a nice place to live anymore.

its still here.. i am living in it and loving it, the problem is that the minority who have an agendea or a grievieance have a larger voice than the majority who live life to the full and in peace with their own community. not every teenager is an ASBO kid not every street corner is a place of violence it is and will always be a safe and peaceful and the best country in the world to live in. go out any weekend and spend time on the village or green or the big parks (not the shopping malls) and see the ordinary people having a good time either kicking a ball around or a village fete. WE are happy just the media wont tell u because happiness dosent sell but misery hey that will fly off the shelfs

You are right. It is Tony Blair and Gordon Brown's fault we are all miserable. Their policies are so daft - like the minimum wage, bringing an end to the poor wages the tories used to encourage. It's sheer lunacy. Operational independence for the BoE, stopping chancellors playing politics with interest rates like Ken Clark did.
And those power crazy police, going around looking for criminals, tshh, where will it end? And I suppose the council has told you to take your pigs and union flags out of the window and given the biggest stately home in the borough to an asylum seeker?
Honestly, people place a lot of unreasonable and unrealistic expectations on politicians - the amount of buffoons who think governments should take nothing in tax and make us all rich is unreal - but to expect Gordon Brown to be responsible for our happiness is just plain silly.

the wrong people got enough of a hold in behind the scenes power play to feather there retirement nest eggs, then let in the next generation of politically correct minded profile hunters,
who married there spin doctors and produced a sprinkling of religious zealots and multi coloured one parent offspring, that have enough chips on there shoulders along with there addictions and lets ban some thing new every day,
will life get better, Yes. But not as we know it captain.

Many answers for that I think, but if bound into one word .... Lies.
Those in power, both at a government, at local and at police level all twist the truth, whether it be the reasons to go to war, the level of inflation, crime or a multitude of other things. "Spin" has become a way of life for those with power even at a corporate level, rather odd when you cannot say what you want without the fear of the politically correct lobby crashing down on you.
All the same, the land is still green and pleasant, the sour part is that it is effectively ruled by the money men, from their ivory towers made from bricks made of greed. (By the way .... its only stinking rich for the minority, not the majority).

You are absolutely right. For ten years this corrupt government has ignored the people and it's manifesto promises and has done exactly what it wants. The senior politicians in government are totally lacking in morals. When they are caught out on something they simply lie. All they want is to stay in power for as long as possible and then get their snouts in the E.U.trough.

It wasn't perfect but good god what a shambles it is now.
Beats me why people want to come here when we have a mass exodus of Brits to Spain.
Get real,if you had no commitments here and could afford to join them, would you be living in Marbella?

I live in Portugal but whenever I go back to the UK it looks great to me!
Slight tendency to meddle with peoples private lives and worry about what other people think of you. Getting rid of that would make it better I think. Otherwise, what's the problem? It's stinking rich, creatively and industrially vibrant. Plenty of rain so no probs with watering the garden....
You can get fresh Thai herbs in any supermarket.
Come on!

Left U.K. in '73 when it was quite nice but the weather cr@p. Went back in '90 and found it dirty and overcrowded after 17 years in Australia. If you don't like it there, have a house to sell and have a trade this is the place to be. It is way better.
