I personally don't like shopping, but I prefer getting people gifts. Giving anyone money or gift certificates just feels very impersonal. You may not give them the perfect gift, but it shows that at least you put some thought into it.

I still like shopping , especially for little ones which I don't have too many of anymore. Kids once they are over the age of 8, seem to prefer money or gift cards because older people don't know what's in etc.
I'll admit as a teenager I preferred money as well, but Christmas and birthdays just weren't the same once that started.
Too many people young and old alike don't appreciate gifts anymore , they want the cash or the card.

I'm not too bothered about presents as I find accepting gifts for any reason a bit embarrassing. All I would like is for people just to remember my birthday which is two days before Christmas. At that time, of course, all thoughts are with preparations for the festive season.

I used to really enjoy shopping for gifts for others and I would also put a lot of time and thought into the gifts I would pick, but the response of people was so uninspiring as if they could give a rat's *** that I now just prefer to buy gift cards or give money.
I now only take the time to pick out gifts for my man.

Most of the time it's the thought that counts.... so think and give a gift.
There are exceptions.
I have a highly critical relative who I just give a gift voucher to. That way when she doesn't like what she got, it isn't my fault.
My sister and I both have birthdays close to Christmas, as does my nephew. We give each other vouchers so we can get something later in the year rather than all at once. Just get the vouchers from an appropriate store. Does Great-Granny REALLY want to go paintballing?

A combination of both. If I find something unique I give it. With the younger people I find a gift card is easier as they can get what they want, which is so different now. What ever I give I expect a thank you card if I don't receive one then all they get from then on is a card.

I alternate the occasions, sometimes money and sometimes a gift IF I find a present that totally fits that person then I buy it then, I do my Christmas shopping all year long tho.

I hate shopping for anything, so I give gift cards to my daughters and a couple of little gifts for my grandkids. That's it. Oh, and I started doing this a long time ago when my daughters told me not to buy any clothes for them any more. Okay!

Depends on who I am shopping for. If it's my daughter or the grandkids, I buy a gift. I know what would please them..
For my husband or my brother, I have no idea what they want. My husband always tells me that he doesn't need anything. My brother always tells me what's wrong with whatever I bought for him. And so, I give them gift certificates. Just easier.

I *hate* when people give me money or gift certificates. It's so tacky in my opinion.. I always buy gifts, even if they don't like them atleast they know I put thought into it and made the effort.
