Yes there is no such thing, just a version we have had presented to us by the powers that be. It's like freedom to be totally free there can be no rules or laws, we are all controlled silently by the system !! :)

Yes and no! We have the freedom, something that a Republican Candidate wants to revisit (I guess he is unaware that you have to pass a Constitutional amendment! You can't change the Constitution by legislation!)
It isn't a myth but a lot of times it is not practiced within the intent of the constitution! Hoovers spying on peoples speech, as well as Bush doing the same, are both unconstitutional!
Where a lot of people get hung up is when they refer to constitutional free speech, it does not follow them necessarily into the private sector except for some instances. It protects you from the government, not necessarily you from anyone else!
I think we have free speech to a point, but it is too often limited by those who should not be misusing their office!

Freedom of speech is something that was fabricated to make the average citizen think they have some way of lashing out, or standing against. If we had "Freedom of speech" then i could go any ware and say anything to anyone right? Well if i were to go to any busy place and say things about the government and say that i believed we should rise against, then were would my freedom be?? I'm sure that i would be i a lot of trouble. But overall it is just some made up thing used to make your everyday joe think he has something he and only he can control. Plus if that were the case why is it that i wouldn't be able to say **** on any public broadcast?

Its a myth - although in general we have freedom of speech there is different rules against ethnic people. I can give my opinion on someone who is British if I think is fat, horrid, smelly etc but I cannot say the same about a black or Asian person without being charged for racial prejudice, so where is freedom of speech, yet in states in America they can call them what they want?

It's not a myth.......
If you read the laws there are distinctions on the method of the speech. In order words, you are free to use any speech you want if you conform to the guidelines of the law, and because this is on yahoo, also yahoo.......
There is lots you can say but it depends on how it is said....

The right to free speech is enshrined in Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration on Human Rights:
"Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers."
In the USA this right is protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution by preventing the exercise of executive or judicial power in a way to limit freedom of speech.
In Europe this has been given legal standing in Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights but watered down to the freedom to hold opinions, and to receive and impart information and ideas subject to certain restrictions that are "in accordance with law" and "necessary in a democratic society".
Thus - you are free to speak your mind but i suspect that if this involves incitement to hatred or terrorism or revolution, there will be legal sanctions found to stop you!

Freedom of speech is not as free as people think. Say the wrong thing, and with the Patriot Act as law, you can be carted away as a terrorist with all your rights stripped and never be seen again.

As long as the majority of the population is over-sensitive to external influences and aren't able to handle the imperfections of life and expect everything to be served on a silver platter to them - then there is no such thing as "free speech".
