Can anyone please help with the name of this singer, she was American, but had an Irish look and sound about her, red hair, she was killed a few years ago, at Christmas time, when she was hit by a speedboat. One of the songs she sang was a Christmas song and the words went, "And the Bells were ringing out for Christmas Day", also does anyone know the name of the group she sang with, thanks alot, sorry that's all the information I can think of.

Was Kirsty McColl for sure. I thought she was Irish, or Anglo-Irish then moved to America but I could be wrong. Yeah, she had a great Christmas hit with the Pogues, an Irish band called "Fairy Tale of New York", she also had a few hits in the 80's in England, two I can remember were "New England" and "Days", but her song "There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis" is pretty well known. Her greatest hits cd is well worth getting, there are some good tune on there and Fairy Tale of New York is my favourite Christmas song ever. I'm pretty sure she's Anglo-Irish or English. Anyway, she was great, a real tragedy when she was run over by a speedboat, in Mexico I think.

Kirsty Anna MacColl (born at Mayday Hospital in Croydon (South London) on 10th October 1959) not Scottish
or Irish. She sang with Shane Mcgowan of the Pogues.

Kirsty macoll, and she was English. Bought up in Croydon London. The band were the Pogues, and it still remains the greatest christmas song. She was killed by a moron driving a speedboat, she was protecting her children when it it her.
The driver got away with it, we lost a tremendous artist, her kids lost a mother!

Kirsty McColl /McCall. (I'm not too sure of the correct spelling!) That Christmas song you are thinking of is called "Fairytale of New York" and she sang it with The Pogues.

Kirsty MacColl - Killed after pushing her sons out of the path of a speedboat, which was going at speed in an area reserved for scuba diving. Actually she was English, born in Croydon.
