Women should do monthly breast exams at home. Where you can feel for any lumps or changes in the breast. Also, when you go for an annual checkup your doctor should also feel your breast. If you suspect and have felt a lump you should have a mammogram and possibly an ultrasound of the breast tissue. These are basic ways to detect breast cancer in the early stages.

The first thing to do is see your doctor if you have found a lump.

They will most likely order a mammogram as part of the testing process as well as an ultrasound. If they find that there is a lump that could be cancer they will have you get a biopsy of the area done to see if it shows cancer.
