Yes I saw the article but it is not about imperialism. It is about energy. Most future border disputes will be about energy and/or access to water.

Look, not every nation can AFFORD to put a flag on the moon. It's a whole lot cheaper financially to send out a vessel onto the high seas, tie a rock to a flag pole, hang a flag on the pole & then throw it over board! For all we know it could have been a silk screend tee shirt of Jane Fonda, IF, they really dropped anything down there at all. Russia is strapped financially. Sure, they wanna drive the Ferarri but can't afford it. So what if a skateboard is the only thing they can come up with for competition. Won't get em any status tho, so they tell every body that the skateboard is radioactive, people over react & they get some attention! People want green hair, tatoos, why? Attention. Let em "get off" on this attention why they can. Next welfare ship pulls into their dock they'll forget all about the flag story as will the rest of the world.

The USA never claimed the moon as part of it's sovereign territory as the Russians are claiming the North Pole.
I don't see the big deal here. This area of the world has been undeveloped because of the harsh environment. If they can tap into the oil that is there, more power to them. No one else has ever tried it and no one was stopping anyone before now. So, all of a sudden, everyone is surprised by the Russian move? Come on now, don't let the media hype you up!

One big difference is that the US was not "claiming" the moon as a territory that we had exclusive rights to. We just put our flag there because we by God pulled off the mission of the 20th century and got there 1st. We earned the right to do so. The Russians are so poor they don't have a pot to pee in and they are making a grab for energy rights. Don't mean a thing. They can put a Russian flag every 20 feet if they want to. What they can't do is back that claim up. They are broke, or very nearly so, and could never hope to militarily actually secure their ridiculous claim.

Just because the US placed a flag on the moon, it doesn't mean we were claiming it as US property...which is what the Russians are trying to do with the Arctic.

Yes, and one we have done many times, as you point out! I guess you answered your own question!
That's how we took most of America from the Indians, and Arizona, New Mexico Texas, California and Nevada(I believe) from Mexico. A Bunch of illegals went to Mexico, squatted the land and tried to annex it! Seems as if Mexico didn't like it, so we have the first historic site (the Alamo) given to illegals. Ironic they were Americans!

This power grab is so imperialistic. Funny, Russia being a communist country and acting like the countries that they bitc, hed about in the past. So basically it's not bold, just hypocrisy.
