Let number of women = x
Number of men = (4 / 5) x
Total = (9 / 5) x
Fraction that are women = x / [ (9 / 5) x ] = 5 / 9

Let numer of women be x.
Number of men = (4/5)x

total class = x+(4/5)x = (9/5)x

Number of women as fraction of the class
=x/{(9/5)x}
=5/9

The class is 5/9 women, and 4/9 men.

let x be the number of women
then 4x/5 are the number of men.
Fraction of women = x/(x+4x/5)
=5x/9x
=5/9

.8 x + x = 1
1.8 x = 1
x = 1/1.8 = 5/9
