Whatever you do don't get gateway. I have one and it broke four times and they won't fix it or give me a refund even if its in the warranty. HP is a good brand and ive never heard of lenovo. A Window Vista is very nice too. I recommend an HP.

If you're not in the US then you shouldn't even be thinking about it unless you have US citizenship because the international warranty on laptops bought in the US is only valid for US citizens (i.e. if you're not a US citizen and it breaks down you'll have to pay to get it fixed locally or pay to ship it back to the states for a warranty repair).
As for which laptop to buy, you really need to give a good description of what you want to do with it and how much you are willing to pay for it.
