Natural gas only exists in gaseous form in the residential environment. While natural gas is transported in liquified form aboard ships, it's offloaded to terminals where it is allowed to gasify before being sent through gas lines to home and industry. There aren't many ports that allow LNG terminals to be built..

Are you thinking of LP gas? It's not natural gas. LP is mostly propane, as opposed to natural gas, which is mostly methane. LP gas is sold in liquid form, whether it's a tank of fuel for your propane torch, a tank of fuel for your barbecue, or a delivery of fuel for your home heating needs.

The natural gas delivered to homes is mostly methane, in gaseous form. There are other gases present, as well as some olfactory agents to alert people to leaks.
