in Iraq and Afghanistan? Why not bring all of all those Halliburton type contractors back home and have them fix the bridges and roads that are in disrepair? If you want to experience real terror, drive across a bridge that can't pass a safety inspection. The bad guys are us if we don't do more to prevent what happened in Minnesota from happening again.

The American Society of Civil Engineers recently completed their "report card" on the nations infrastructure. If I recall, it was a "D".

The cost to bring our infrastructure to good condition is $1.6 Trillion over five years. Not sure how that compares to our war in Iraq. But it probably is not that different.

I believe we need to be in Afghanistan. I also believe that historians will view our war with Iraq as one of America's biggest, most costly, and most foolish blunders.

And I live in a state that has more of those bridges than any where, it only take one to collapse. No one cares unless it effects them so when this news fades away, our NTSB people will go away and worry about something else and when the next span collapses they'll all holler "I told you so" as we watch CNN all day and bury the dead .

I have to agree with you. It's hard to reason that our infastructure is falling apart and yet we aren't providing the funds to rebuild it. I'm with the senator that said this needs to be a wake up call.

I think the irony is this. They were doing surface construction on this bridge. This is the epitome of how things are done these days. Fix the things on the outside that people will see. Bury the things that aren't visible and we'll take care of them when we have to. Well wake up folks..... now we have to!

It's horrible and tragic but it has happened before and will unfortunately happen again. And people are fickle, you know how many times people complain about road repairs? For the next week they will focus on it but give up their favorite route to the beach or to work for a year?

Well, in a way I agree with you. But on the other hand, with the world's bumper crop of terrorists over there, we aren't having bridges blown up here.
I think every dollar spent over there, is one less potential tragedy here. I know it's not popular to support the war but I think it is not a coincidence we haven't had a major terrorism incident in the U.S. since 9/11.
