there's this part in the PRINCE'S TALE chapter.

dumbledore and snape were having this conversation and it came to a point where dumbledore asks snape about "harry growing in snape's heart".. then snape casts this patronus: a doe. then he says.. FOR HIM? then he says afterwards: always.

WHAT DID THAT MEAN? did snape really love harry or he just did those things because of his love, lily?

For Lilly, not Harry. The doe was her patronus as well.

Snape has never loved Harry. Harry looked too much like his father and Snape despised Harry's father. After all, he was the man who had taken Snape's one and only true love from him.

Everything Snape did on behalf of Harry was done because of his love for Lily and because of his guilt for selling Lily out to Voldemort.

If you can recall, when Harry was looking at Snape's memories in the Pensieve, Snape confessed to Dumbledore that he asked Voldemort to spare Lily. Snape was okay with Voldemort killing Harry and his father. And Dumbledore said to that, "You disgust me."

The doe patronus signified his love for Lily, not Harry. Lily's patronus was a doe also, as Harry told Voldemort at their final battle at Hogwarts.

Dumbledore asks Snape if he's starting to care for Harry to which Snape replies "For him" and then casts his patronus. When Dumbledore asks if Snape is still in love with Lily (which is what he's asking when he says "After all these years") Snape then replies with "Always." Snape could care less about Harry beyond the fact that he's Lily's son and their keeping him alive and as safe as possible for her. But he would always love Lily.

Dumbledore got Snape to do those things for Harry, because Dumbledore knew of Snape's "Great Love" for Lily Potter (Harry's mother). Snape hated Harry because he reminded him of James Potter, whom Snape also hared.

Hope that clears things up

Well, you find out clearly in the seventh book that Snape loves Lily and he feels obliged to help Harry.

His Patronus was a Doe, the same as Lily's because he always loved Lily. That is why he will always protect Harry.

All for Lily only, I'm afraid. But I think that maybe he did have a 'slight' affection for Harry as he had Lily's eyes and he saw her everytime he looked at Harry. He couldnt get passed the fact that he resembled James more though.

meaning that he couldnt care less about Harry, everything he was doing, he was doing for Lily, and he produced the patronus, a doe, because thats what Lily's patronus was

He said those things because harry was the son of the women he had loved all his life and the one last reminder of her. After all Harry may have looked like hios father but ha had his mothers eyes. I think it was quite a moving moment personally.
