First off... to all those that would give it back to Bonds or Coopertown... ARE YOU GUYS INSANE? You're giving away at least half a million dollars here.
If I got the ball, I'd have another one in my back pocket and throw that one on the field and have everyone chase that ball. Then I'll ask security to escort me out. I'd get it authenticated the next morning and put it in a safety deposit box.
I'll hire someone to sell it for me and I'll try to remain as anonymous as possible.

1. The Hall isn't defacing the Bonds ball; it has stated, however, that it would accept the ball in a defaced state. The Hall Museum is charged with telling the story of baseball, and the ball brings a story of its own. 2. The Hall Museum does not have McGwire's 70th home run ball. Todd McFarlane still does, far as I know. 3. McGwire, during the 1998 season, acknowledged that he was taking androstenedione, which at the time was completely legal both within MLB and under US law, for those who fuss over such details. It is a testosterone precursor. 4. McGwire does not have a "place" in Cooperstown. His first Hall ballot was 2007, wherein he received 23.5% (or some amount very close to that) from the writers, well short of the 75% minimum needed for induction. 5. Two wrongs don't make a right. In fact, one wrong should be more than sufficient to learn lessons and change direction. Defacing the Bonds ball, as publicly kneejerk satisfying it may be to many boors, gives neither license nor endorsement to repeat such nonsense with other artifacts. The point, irrelevant though it is, is made.

Greed is having way to much involvement with Bonds and his chase of history. Can't someone do something for the good of the game without expecting to receive millions in return. I personally would give the ball to Bonds or the Hall of Fame. Either of them deserve to have the ball, not some greedy collector who spent millions on a baseball that he didn't catch or possibly didn't even go to the game. I hope that much like McGwire's 62nd home run, that Bonds hits the historic home run where fans can't get it. That way we can avoid the future law suits of who had the ball and who ended up with it.
If I did happen to catch the ball the first thing I would do is curl up into the fetal position to protect myself and the ball. Second get the ball next to my junk because odds are that no man is going to reach inside another mans pants looking for the ball.

I would probably keep it.But if some fan that looks like he had to much booze, then I'll just leave ASAP!Or I would ask Barry to sign it for me or give it back. But all in all, people are really fighting about a $20 ball!People don't really realize it because it comes as a big shock.Humans are like that. When something big or small comes your way, your initial reaction is to catch it and get a hold of it.I think Barry worked hard to get that ball going,so I think he should keep it.

I would keep another ball in my pocket, then switch it with the record ball. when Barry comes on the field I would throw the fake one at his oversized head then run away to sell the real one.

I would be escorted out by security, because that's what always happens. I would wait to meet Barry and see if he makes me a ridiculous offer. Otherwise, I would keep it for a long time, because it will be worth more later.
