Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Go to your GP and ask him if you can be put on to METFORMIN.
This is a tablet form drug that treats diabetes but is also VERY VERY good at letting people with this diagnosis concieve. I promise you it will work. I am a medical student and have studied this!
Good luck and have a happy healthy baby x

Well, I have PCOS and am still ttc after nineteen months. At the moment I'm on 1000mg of Met, but my dr. hasn't done anything else with dosage, because we're waiting on test results for possible hypothyroidism. Perhaps Clomid or an increase in Met will happen once we're able to rule out some other stuff. As for treatment, conception with PCOS is really dependent upon the body. Most dr.s recommend you do the Met thing, then add Clomid and along the way measure your temp to verify you're ovulating. Some women have periods but don't actually ovulate, which could be the reason for no pregnancy. If these things don't work, you really have to get more serious about seeing an endo or other reproductive specialist to look at FET and IVF options. Some reports say only 20% of PCOSers will conceive without invasive fertility treatments; others increase that number to somewhere around 40%.

Hi there
You are normally prescribed clomid to aid ovulation but it doesn't always work. I know of four people(me included) who tried clomid and it didn't work for any of them.
Metformin is sometimes prescribed but only if you are insulin ressistant as its a diabetic drug. My cousin has pcos and insulin ressistance and was prescibed metformin. She went on to have a baby boy.
Two of my friends went on to conceive naturally and have had healthy babies. I'm the only one who hasn't conceived but I have had children previously before I knew about me having pcos.
Sometimes you might be offered ovarian drilling this can help kick start the ovaries in to working.
Then there is also IVF which depending on your circumstances you might get a free cycle.
Try not to stress too much and concentrate on eating healthy - gentle exercise - maintaining a healthy bmi - stopping drinking and smoking. There is light at the end of the tunnel and there is still hope you will have a baby
good luck

there's definitely hope! many people get pregnant with PCOS. I've read a lot about PCOS and medications such as Clomid are sometimes given to help you along with other injectables depending in your particular case. You should talk to your obgyn or an RE (fertility specialist) to see what they say. you can read more on PCOS and conceiving, and also ask an RE online about your case in the website below as the source.
best of luck!

I was diagnosed with PCOS five years ago and recently have been prescribed Metformin (which is used for diabetics) and Clomid to help me Ovulate. The Metformin cancels out some of the symptoms of PCOS and in cases where periods are irregular or non existent it has proven to regulate them. Thus increasing your chances of conception

there is light at the end! i have pco's and am now expecting my second child. my son was concieved after 6 months of no contraception and the baby i'm carrying is the result of fertility treatment. i had to take a drug called clomid that made my ovaries produce eggs and then we had iui (where they put healthy sperm straight in at the top of my womb). it is really hard being told you'll have problems concieveing but don't give up hope. as soon as you've been trying for a year your gp can refer you to a fertility clinic. good luck.

I thought I had it and I have 2 boys ages 24 and 10. My first husband passed away in an auto accident and I got pregnant quick. After mourning and time I met a nice man and I could not get pregnant and after 5 years of that second marriage we split up because he thought it was my fault. My third relationship I wasn't married and after being together only a few months I was PREGNANT!!! We are still together and it shows that the man needs testing done too and quit blaming the woman
