ata is almost obsolete but there easy to install and format,but
then comes change and the new generation of drives are here to stay like it or not if you plan on progressing the sata is the drive of the future,just make sure you have the board for it!

SATA has better access in data 150mb/ sec but the ATA is 66-130mb/sec. Sata has more advance feature like raid in order for you to reach higher data access 300mb/s. :)

most of new motherboards come with SATA support but old one dont support SATA.
SATA is definitely good one to have if you motherboard supports it
