News helicopters often help the police keep track of fleeing suspects, so I certainly don't think it should be banned...especially if it turns out the crash was just pilot error. Having said that, the increasing tendency for news channels to monitor the most inane chases of petty criminals and drunks has really gotten tiresome. If they were de-emphasized a bit...that wouldn't be a bad thing.

My opinion is that the news helicopters have a job to do - there are a lot more car chases and have noticed that people are captivated to the TV when they are ongoing - then you have all the reality cop shows on the tube now, I also believe that many of these copy-cat chases are due to 1. Drugs or 2. people wanting to get their 15 seconds of fame. The police have their air altitude and the news helicopters have a different altitude. Yes - the news ones have helped the police find some of these culprits - and they do communicate with the Incident Commanders on the ground - what I do find disturbing is this - the police are doing their job(which is dangerous enough) BUT how can a District Attorney charge a person in the running car with possible murder charges for the news helicopter reporters and pilots - when they are covering the news for the local TV ratings???????? Yes - there should be less attention to these types of coverage.

For starters, News helicopters have helped the police catch criminals. The police need to be able to stop these people, but they also need new methods and training in waht the best way to do this is. Maybe they should consult with the military?

well, i kinda like to know if there is a high speed chase going on, where the guy is going and so forth so you can be alert and not get killed by the madman running through a intersection..on the other hand, i have a problem with charging this guy with the deaths of the people on the copters..after all, they are just media whores doing it for ratings, paparazzi on steroids if you will.

It's funny, the media was saying do you think this criminal will now get charged with manslaughter for these helicopter deaths, when actually the media themselves should be charged with manslaughter, they are the ones responsible for this, without their theatrics these choppers wouldn't be following car chases.

I've long thought that News media should back off all that stuff. It's terrible what happened, but the men in those helos knew the risks.

The news whores should back off and let the police do their jobs. Their job is hard enough as it is.
