There are degrees of trust and there are degrees of government. Some levels of government seem relatively honest. Others, I wouldn't trust with my true name. Oddly enough, I trust the federal government more than the local police. An agency that large hs much less to gain from the small amount of money they could steal from me. But in general, I trust the politicians as long as their mouths are closed. The cops as long as I can see their hands, And the mid level government beureuacrats, never.

I think people misunderstand the government. A lot of things the people themselves can and should do for themselves the government should be merely for backup. We depend on them to be our babysitters and wipe our asses and be the backup. They can't do both and they usually fail miserably because the peoples priorities are so out of order. If something is wrong in this country it's not because the administration or congress is responsible it's because the people sat back on their asses hoping and expecting rather than speaking out and protesting and having their say on how they want their country to be run. It's funny this is the only situation where the bosses get ****** in the *** by their employees on a daily basis. As for the question do I trust the government? Hmm, to a reasonable degree yes. Do I trust the people? To a reasonable degreee yes also. After all I still live here.

Every time I drive a car i trust the bridge will stand and the road will be there. We all trust the government subconciously, at the very least.
However, we must all avoid trustanoia, the irrational belief that a government would never do anything to hurt you.

I do not trust the government because I do not trust the more influential citizens who perpetuate this ruthless system. Look carefully and you will see the ruthlessness of which I speak.
EG: innocent men are routinely executed; innocent men are routinely framed for crimes; innocent men languish in secret prisons funded by government; law enforcement continually kill young black children with impunity; bribery is legal; Louisiana is in limbo; taxes are outrageous; businesses are allowed to lie, steal, and cheat with impunity; neither branch of the government is functioning correctly; policemen are out of control; innocent kids are routinely snatched off the streets and harmed and that has become accepted practice; confessed killers are allowed back into certain neighborhoods to kill again; Mr Bush has not been held accountable for the disaster in Louisiana; Mr Bush is not the duly elected President; soldiers are being injured and killed for very wrong reasons; millions of people are without health insurance; black people are treated worse than dirt; women still catch hell; life choices magically become everyone else's issues; ...time to answer another question.

Why should I trust a government that has been caught lying so many times that we've stopped counting?

no because the government always keeps a bunch of secrets that they never tell us they just dont want you to panic i mean we could be in a situation where we could be in a death situation but there not telling us because they dont make you panic so thats the thing i dont like about they government and plus they have cameras in places that you would never know because they wire places just to keep a look hope that answers your question

I trust them to keep things running more or less okay--to provide roads and a national guard ans such. But I wouldn't put them in charge of life-or-death decisions!

Not really. Reading history has kind of debunked the notion that any government is entirely trustworthy for me.
