hourly rate is 850 cents
1%<--->8.50 cents
6%<---> 51 cents
Hourly rate is now $8.50 + $0.51 = $9.01

To find 6% of 8.50 you just multiply it by 0.06. So 8.50 x .06 = 0.51
You add that to the original $8.50 because its supposed to be an ADDITIONAL six percent. Your final answer should be $9.01 per hour.

raise in her income per hour=6% of $8.50
=$ 6 * 8.50/100
=$ 0.51
she makes now=$(8.50+0.51)
=$9.01

8.50 $ per hour x 1.06 = 9.01 $ per hour

the 1.06 is because 6% = 0.06 as a decimal. SO just had 1 to ge 1.06

get the 6% of 8.50 then add it to 8.50
therefore 0.06 x 8.50 = .51
8.50 + 0.51 = 9.01

Her raise = 0.06*8.50 = 0.51

She now makes 8.50 + 0.51 = $9.01.
