Recently, I have learned about Geroge Bush's Healthy Marriage Initiative. After reading a bit about his new program, I thought that he was a bit cuckoo in the head. What do you think about the Healthy Marriage Initiative? Do you think that he could have used a different program or method more efficiently?

I think George Bush has his head shoved so far up his on a*s that he doesn't know whether he is arthur or martha and I wouldn't listen to a word he says.

I took a look at it (link below). While I wouldn't call it cuckoo--I've got nothing against marriage--I do think it's an odd idea for someone who insists he isn't for Big Government.

Also, in the early list of reasons marriage is extra good, I only wholly agree with reason #2--that kids do better in a healthy two-parent marriage. I'm pretty sure that single individuals earn as much or more than married individuals, and in fact have heard that "Married with No Kids" are quite a desired demographic for luxury products and services. And I suspect the "less often a victim of crime" has to do with the age demographic of marrieds as much as anything.

Marriage Protection Week, 2003
By the President of the United States of America
A Proclamation
"Through education and counseling programs, faith-based, community, and government organizations promote healthy marriages and a better quality of life for children."
"And we must continue our work to create a compassionate, welcoming society, where all people are treated with dignity and respect."

Yeah... dignity and respect as long as they fit into his narrow definition of faith-based marriage... does that mean that everybody else is just screwed and destined to spend eternity in the way-warm place? Would someone please help me get this idiot and the rest of government out of my bedroom? It's getting really crowded!! While we're at it, we'd better turn Goldwater back over in his grave.

Considering that fewer couples are getting married these days, it won't work! And not only that, there are too many, one parent households as well!
It is a nice pipe dream for utopia, but not cost effective!
I wish he would put as much thought and spend as much time, on getting our people out of Iraq, as he obviously put on coming up with this initiative! Getting that done would be an accomplishment!
What a world, what a world, what a world!

I think Bush and the rest of the right-winded wackos need to stop commenting and crafting the government to interferce in matters which are none of their business. Oddly enough, it is the Republicians who claim they want government out of their lives, but they only say that when it is about weaking pollution standards.

Bush and his like need to focus their attention on health care and doing their job and stop trying to turn the US into a bunch of bible thumpers.

I think the only marriage he needs to worry about is his own.
unless you are a marriage counselor you have no business interfering with other people's marriages.

But as programs go, it's less disastrous than most of his ideas....
