i don't know, but it sounds like you are looking for a cheap way to do it, so i would use kool ade powder....its a starting point.

I wouldn't use anything water based (you might possibly be able to get away with using just a little though).

The special colorants sold for coloring resins are basically artists' oil paints (in tubes) though, so you might want to buy a small kit of colors and use those.

(I'm pretty sure the category called "Coloring" that's under the Epoxy Resins category would apply to polyester/casting resins as well)

It isn't recommended, but you could try it and see if the results are what you wanted. You would be better of just buying the transparent dyes make just for cast resin.
