I realize that this question may sound stupid, but I'm gonna ask anyways as I'm really curious (I'm just a beginning dancer). Does dancing on pointe hurt at all? How do dancers deal with the pain (if any)?

Pointe dancers deal with pain in different ways. Personally, I don't think dancing on pointe hurts too much, but I have very good shoes also. When I first started I got a brand that was very popular, but I hated them. then I switched to gaynor minden and haven't went off them since. The only thing that hurts for me is when I cut my toenails too short or when my ankles get sore from all of the up and down movement.

Some dancers take a small amount of painkiller, but I don't think that's very wise because they need to know when they're hurting so they can tell if something is wrong. I personally just live with the pain if there is any. We learn to tough it out.

I didn't do ballet but did Irish dancing and we do a form a pointe dancing in hard shoe dance. It does hurt but only if your ankles are underdeveloped and not strong enough - that's why there are such strict regulations over what age and level of experience you must have before you are allowed to dance en pointe in the first place!

If you do everything you are asked to with regard exercise and strengthening, your ankles and related muscles/tendons will be strong enough to stop the pain when you do get to dance on the old toes!

Best of luck xx

I dont think it hurts at all, if you have the right shoes it might not hurt. Also, i know a girl who doesnt even use pads in her shoes and she says it doesnt hurt after a while. It may hurt a little at first, so here are some tips.If it hurts your toes, experiment with different pads and tapes. If it hurts because of blisters, tape your toes and feet. I hope you have fun on pointe.

Well it is really painfull for a beginner but as long as you love it you learn to control the pain and your feet do as well and after a lot of practise you don't hurt anymore..If you are a good dancer don't be afraid just go for it...!

ive done pointe for the last 4 years of my life & i dont actually think that it hurts that much.. i soaked my feet in metholated spirts and now the skin is stronger and therefore it doesnt get blisters easily.. and that is generally the thing that causes the pain.. it also depends on the foot.. its different for everyone.. as it doesnt hurt me and others at my dancing skl cant come off the barre as it hurts so much.. hope that helps =] Good luck

Yes! Very much. We can't have pedicures because our toe nails will break off. We get caluses, blisters, our feet bleed because of the weight. But after awhile our feet heal up our feet don't bleed and we're peachy keen!!!
