If a woman has freedom to wear what she wants...why then she has no "right" to cover her body and face...(She has a freedom to be covered as well as to be naked, right???)

I have a freedom to have faith in Allah as well as in God or to have no faith at all...why should I only conform to the Christian Norms of Life / Christian Realm???

What makes people think that only a white christian-catholic straight guy who lives in New York and has a jewish origin can be free??? How about other guys and girls whom CREATOR distributed around the globe??? The most famous usurpation of freedom by American Founding Fathers....(All men are equal!) How about women, slaves and others??? I think it is in our genes to uglify the TOTAL FREEDOM...what do you think???

Some people "uglify" the idea of freedom now for the same reason some always have, no matter the century, no matter the country. It's because they like the idea of being on top of the social pyramid, and feel extremely threatened at the idea of having to share that imagined position.

At least FEWER act that way now than in the history of the world (of which I'm aware, anyway). In the college where I teach, there's a wonderfully diverse mix of races and backgrounds, and plenty of women wear headscarves or even the occasional burka without being hassled... and I live in Texas. I'm sure there are other areas where they do get hassled, but a college campus is pretty safe in that respect.

ETA: And what Coragryph said :-)

Who is preventing anyone from wearing burkas and veils? The only place that it would be prohibited would be in banks or other places that identification is crucial for security and safety. There is an old saying that a mans right to swing his fist begins where another mans nose begins. In other words, your rights end where my rights begin. So a the right to wear a veil would be superseded by the banks right to do business without being robbed.

In the USA you are free to practice whatever religion you wish. You are also free to criticize the others.

As for the Founding Fathers; you are trying to bash a civilization based on the belief system which existed 250 years ago. The USA has changed, there are no longer slaves and women are equal.

Now can you say that Muslims have renounced terror and the mistreatment of women?

And no uglify is not a word

What do I think?

I think you're rambling.

Don't take our Founding Fathers seriously when they said "all men are created equal." After all, as you seem to recall, they owned slaves. Furthermore, the men who wrote the 14th Amendment (the only reference to equality which appears in the Constitution) would not even let women vote on it.

"What makes people think that only a white christian-catholic straight guy who lives in New York and has a jewish origin can be free?"

Like I said, you sound like you're rambling. What makes you think that there are very many people -- in NY! -- who think the way you describe?

You're just rambling. I can't take this question very seriously.

Wow, quite a little rant you have there. No, freedom isn't just for white Christians, which is why we brought it to the Muslims of Iraq and Afghanistan. As far as America's founding fathers, name me one country that existed at the time our Constitution was written that allowed women, slaves, or even non-land owners to vote? Hell, name one that allowed anyone to vote at all? We're not perfect, but America has and always will personify freedom. Why else do people keep coming here in droves?

"All men are equal" is in the Declaration, not the Constitution -- and it referred to humans, not males.

The first time gender appears in the Constitution is the 14th Amendment.

And yes, true freedom means everyone -- regardless of gender, sexual orientation, hair color, race, religion, height, foot size or anythign else.....

But each person's freedom concerns only their actions -- not their ability to limit someone else's actions.

I think some people assume that if women felt free to do as they pleased, they wouldn't want to cover themselves from head to toe, so somebody must be pushing them around.

I don't think "uglify" is an actual word.

true freedom only exists in a world where all moslem chicks wear bikinis and black men can have sex with them anytime they want.
