I had an ultrasound yesterday and the doctors say lucky i did. my cervix is supposed to be 3cm thick, but its not its only 1.5cm thick. as i didnt have enough water in my bladder they went in internally and found out clear as day that my cervix is soft and already thinning. The report of the U/S said that i was already 42.5% effaced. The doctors say that i will not make it to 40 weeks and i WILL go early. She is head down "and ready to go" as the doctor said. He also said that i could go into labor at any time. What do you think?

Maybe yes, maybe no. Did your doctor do a fetal fibrinectin test? It's a vaginal swab, and if positive it indicates delivery will happen soon. Also, if your doctor was sincerly worried that you would deliver preterm, you should have received steroid injections to help mature your baby's lungs. and been put on bedrest, and had other testing done to assure fetal well being.

With a first baby, most women do efface before dilating. Then again, you may stay 50% effaced for a very long time. There's no exact answeres with pregnancy, every one is different, and every delivery is different.

32 weeks is 8 months. Most pregnancies last 9 months or 36 weeks. I'm not sure why you want to go to 40 weeks.

Development of your soon-to-be is pretty much done by the end of month 7. After then, it is just getting bigger, so even if you are early, by a few weeks, he'll be just fine.

Remember the most important advice to remember as a parent, is that no matter how hard you try, your kids will probably grow up just fine.

Good luck. You'll do fine no matter what you do :)

It sounds like labor is not too far off. Bed rest might be your only option and even that does not guarantee that you will be able to carry to term. Take it easy.... no running out to the store, work, or any other activity that involves too much walking or standing on your feet. It might be difficult to keep yourself sedentary but it is the only thing you can do that might help..... I'm sure your doctor told you all this already. Good luck.

Being dilated doesn't make labor come any faster - At 38 weeks I was 4cm's 100% and 0 station - I didn't delivery until I was 41 weeks 5 days Its 100% unpredictable as to how much longer you have
