"Barrack Room Ballads" by Rudyard Kipling. It's a collection of poems he wrote while in the British Army in India over one hundred years ago. Sadly, many college campuses no longer include them in the syllabus because they are not politically correct. Here's an example, with the objections noted in parentheses, of part of his poem "On The Road To Mandalay":
"Bloomin' idol made of mud that they call the great god Bud (offensive to Buddhists)
Plucky lot she cared for idols when I kissed her where she stood (sexual harassment)"
