Could it be the mattress you are sleeping on?

Anytime you have back problems it can be very painful, regardless if its a strained muscle, etc. Alot of times doctors are unable to see what is really going on in an x ray. I kept having back problems and the doctors were telling me it was a pulled muscle. Finally went to a different doc and he did a cat scan then an mri. I had 2 bulging disc and a herinated disc. Don't play around with it, make the doctors do the extra test.

This could be caused by weakness in the back muscles. If you have such a place nearby, go to a gym where you can consult a physical trainer on exercises that will strengthen your back. Give it some time, do the exercises faithfully, and see if they help. At first you may have some soreness as you get used to using the muscles, but you may notice a real improvement within a week or so.

Sounds like you've simply pulled a muscle. Heat will ease it
and taking an anti inflamatory helps with the pain. Buying a
heating pad to have on hand, is necessary if one exercises.
Try the pad for 20 min. intervals, three times a day if you can.
After three or four days, if you aren't better, see a licensed
acupuncturist. My husband was cured in two sessions with
one, after having back pain for a few years and no doctor,
therapist, or chiropractor gave him any relief. So he swears
by acupuncture.

Have it x-rayed again. I went to three doctors before I found a problem. Have a blood test. Have someone feel for muscle nots in your back to trace the problem. Just keep looking. It is all that you can do. Best wishes.

I have carefully gone through the long list of treatments you have undergone. One of my relatives had the same problem. The doctor diog nised Isleipdisc. She was operated upon and got relief. Are you an athelete? The condition might have been induced by violent execises. If you have turned your prime it may be that there might be an affliction on account of old age.
