Everyone is teasing me for the names I want for my *cross-your-fingers-and-hope-the-test-was-right* baby... if it's a boy, I want "Baxter" and if it's a girl, I want "Beatrix."

I loved Beatrix Potter books growing up. Are these names completely awful? They're very English, and that's what I like about them, but I could use another opinion or two or three :)

Beatrix is an English name... and that's certainly where we'll be living.

She could be "Bea" for short or even "Trixy."

Food for thought. :)

And this made me giggle... the first name that popped into my head when I thought of female characters in the Beatrix Potter books was "Jemima Puddleduck."

BAXTER...oh boy be ready for your son to come home from school crying everyday..
Beatrix sounds like an old lady's name...not that there's anything wrong with having that name if you're and elderly woman.
My opinion.

I like the traditional feel of Beatrix, very English. If your mate agrees there's no reason to not go for it. It's not unique but most likely won't be common either and what's more, everyone will know how to spell it. Bea and Trix both will make lovely nicknames.

I think Baxter is ok, it's kind of timeless, but please - Beatrix?

This little girl would get teased a lot with a name like that. How would you have felt at school if you were teased because if the name your parents gave you, sure it's a part of child hood, teasing and being teased but i don't think it needs to be escalated by a name like that.

is there a character from one of the books that you could name you daughter

Ideas based on characters from the books,
Benjamin or Jeremy for a boy.
For a girl, how about Lucy? Breanne or Brianna, or Bree would be similar to Beatrix.
