I have no idea. The history of the word "f-a-g-g-o-t" being associated with gays was during the Inquisition, when a witch would be burned at the stake and they would throw homosexuals on the fire as kindling.
Your question reminded me of the play "Spamalot": when Lancelot, after murdering half the wedding party rescuing the gay prince in the tower, is told he must be gay and he says no. In the play, male dancers wearing puffy colored sleeves and fruit on their head (like Carmen Miranda) come out dancing around Lance singing about how he must be gay. OMG the funniest moment of a very funny play!!!!! :) :) :) "His name is Lancelot, and in tight pants a lot, he likes to dance a lot, you know you do!" (Lancelot: i do?)

Because fruit is sweet and the adj. sweet is also used to classify homosexuals. Maybe they're called sweet because heterosexual males aren't really as sweet, as in nice, like gay men are.

Both are soft and sweet. Homosexuality are to be consider to be sweet on the same sex and with opposite sex. People who don't understand something they always develop names for things.

i have two thoguhts on this... one is like an old saying like "that person is a fruit loop" kind of meing ditzy or something like that.... and a lot of gay people "act" that way.... other thought-
fruit comes in all sorts of colors.... as do fruit loops cereal..... gay people have the rainbow thing......
