yeah its a bad habit and the schools will make your mom take that away from him. Wow 5 years old and still using one dang that is bad more so for the habit being had on you all to get him to kick. I have a 5 year old and she never used a pacifier past the age of 18 months I hate them so much and my 8 year old hated them so he never has had one. School is coming up and you and your parents are going to have a child that is not going ot give the thing up at all and the school will be angry with the fact they will have to deal with your little brother and this pacifier. Lets hope he sees other kids don't have one and stop using the pacifier.

It isn't good for his teeth, and it's probably more of an emotional attachment now for him than a comforter. I would keep working with your little brother in getting him to stop using it. Maybe you can tell him big boys don't need baby pacifiers, something to motivate him not to use one anymore. Maybe if you take them all up and throw them away he won't have them there to rely on. Your mom should be the one trying to get him to stop though. That's great that your looking after your little brother. Good Luck!

Don't be overly concerned. I think you should start trying to get him off of the pacifier though. The easiest way to get him off it is to take it away for a while and play a game with him. Gradually take it away for longer periods of time. I was sucking my thumb when I went to bed at age 8. I wouldn't go to bed with it in my mouth but when I'd wake up there it would be. It's a hard habit to break but another trick is making it taste bad. Hot sauce never worked for me but it might for him. There is also a way I've heard is pretty efficient most of the time. If you make a calendar and give him a sticker for everyday he goes without using it (scratch and sniff work best) and then talk to your mom about getting your brother a reward if he goes a certain number of days without it. It will give him something to look forward to .....a goal to reach.....

Good Luck with your brother....

Yes, it is bad. It can cause serious orthodontic problems for a child with teeth. Please let your mother know that it can cause his teeth to be really unhealthy...I've seen cases so severe from sucking and thumb sucking that it made the palate deformed...Get him off the passy!!!!! Do it with compassion though...I'm sure he is very attached, maybe reward him with other things every time he doesn't suck it. He will eventually not want it anymore. Take him shopping for a new toy or stuffed animals in exchange for the passy. He may be willing to give it up for something else he can play with.

well i don't know if this happens to all, but my friend's sister had a pacifier for a long time, and now she was sent to special ed cause she can't talk without the pacifier. i'm not sure if that'll happen to your little brother though. but it's probably best if you try and help him get used to not using the pacifier anymore.

Yes. It can disalign the gums to the extent that the teeth, both baby and final sets will come in crooked. Also continual
oral gratification cannot be good. Try seducing him away
from it with sugarless gum. You are a good brother.

Well pacifiers are really for a baby not a toddler.

It can screw his mouth up orthodontically. He needs to give up the binky...good luck, and what a lucky guy your brother is to have a sibling that cares about him.

Bad for his mind and bad for his teeth. I'll bet you don't have a father. It could also be related to your mom not wanting your little brother to grow up.
