... and then preach tolerance towards every other disagreeable/potentially dangerous act?

Oh, and before you ask, I don't smoke.

Any other group of people and their rights would be fiercely protected.

This clip might actually put things into perspective. It's South Park, I know, but they have a point.

people are just simple minded, it is a persons choice to smoke, I used to smoke and then quit, but I do not crap on anybody for smoking. It is up to you whether you want to smoke or not. People should stop worrying about smokers and start worrying about other things.

Because you're brainwashed by society and the media. My gramps was a 2 pack a day smoker, and a heavy drinker. He died at age 75. It wasn't because of his lungs. They were in great shape still. It was because of his liver. So I guess smoking is better than drinking, judging by your theory. My other grandparents are 91 and 86 and have been smoking for over 65 years, with no signs of quitting. They are healthier then most non smokers in their 50's. So if they die 20 years earlier than they should, when were they expected to die had they never smoked? I'll have to ask them that. That's right up there with every cigarette takes 7 minutes off of your life. That means they would have lived to be around 150 had they never smoked. You just need to get a grip of reality.

I just hate the inconsiderate ones who invade my air space. Some people are more thoughtful and ask if it bothers you before they light up. I'm equally disagreeable toward other nasty habits and dangerous acts.
Plus, I had to watch 3 people struggling for breath dying from lung cancer, all the while telling me to never ever smoke.

The biggest obstacle is that is a little hard to be tolerant of a dirty, disgusting habit that hurts OTHERS. If it were only smokers who suffered from it ... then that would be just fine. Unfortunately, there's this awful additional affect called "SECOND HAND SMOKE" that can kill just as easily as actually smoking in some instances. And can definitely do damage ... in the long run.

I lost my uncle last year to lung cancer ... and now my dad was diagnosed with it. They were/are both only 60, but both of them smoked. It's brutal let me tell you ~ to watch someone die that way. There are plenty of good reasons to ban smoking and those who smoke from your life ... second hand smoke kills ... plain and simple and that's one of the BEST reasons of all to keep your distance.

I don't hate smokers. I just disagree with what they do because it seems they're intentionally killing themselves and smoke around others and know that it's twice as worse and don't seem to really care. And what act are you talking about tolerance to for example???

Because its the "in" thing to do. I also don't smoke but I see how smokers are treated. Its like they are second class citizens. This is a legal product, just like alcohol. What happens when there aren't anymore smokers? That's what scares me. Who are they going to go after then? People who drink alcohol stink too.

I don't hate smokers, I am just against "smoking" , if you choose to smoke it is your problem but what would that have to affect me when you decide to smoke on a restaurant or in a public place? or even worst...in front of kids?!! If you want to kill yourself ok but don't take more people with you.

It's hard to preach to others because they end up looking at your downfalls and faults and talk about you from there. That's why I only like to preach to those who like to listen, otherwise, I'm wasting my breath.

It is a nasty disgusting habit. I am a smoker and I think so. If it turns my walls yellow I don't even wanna think about my lungs.

*Rightly so and fully justified ..... cause the smokers are killing the ones around them thru ''passive smoking'' ;
which is not only injurious, but also harmful to our health !!!!!
This act is not a 'potential hazard', but an 'immediate dangerous' one .
