Well hacking is illegal if you are not allowed to access the computer you are hacking.
Just like how it's illegal to share free music on Napster/eMule/Limewire/etc/etc even if you are not making a profit off of it.
Thats the ways of this world.
Hacking is illegal. Cracking is illegal. If you hack/crack you will goto Jail/Prison.
If you need proof hacking is illegal here it is:
1)Hacking requires breaking into a system (Breaking and entry and Trespassing)
2)Hacking may require stealing source code of the operaing system which is also ILLEGAL unless it is GPL open source then taking the source code will be legal but hacking is not.
3)Hacking violates privacy (Considered illegal)
4)Hacking causes problems to the computer or may open a door to more problems.
The point is HACKING INTO A SYSTEM IS ILLEGAL (Sorry for the caps but is nessary for legal reaons)
if you hack you will goto prison or pay heavy fines to the courts.

First at all, hacking is NOT ALWAYS illegal.
In Linux you can hack your kernel (core) to force some desired behavior.
Security IT Providers perform controlled hacking tests to find failures in the system (this method is known as Penetration Test).
You are hacking a game if you use GameShark or GameGenie codes
To hack is to obtain something from a system which isn't supposed to happen in normal conditions.
Now what do you do while hacking can be legal or illegal. To violate privacy or steal info is illegal. As well as perform reverse engineering (but that's cracking)
If you get hired by a company to make you tell them their network vulnerabilities, you are hacking legally.
Take a look in Internet about white hats and black hats hackers.

You already know the answer to this question. Yes this would be illegal or at the bare minimum against the terms of service and thus disqualify you from use of the service. But if may take the service a while to figure out what's going on. If you read the terms of service of said program it more than likely has a clause that states something to the fact that defrauding the service to receive points/dollars or whatever benefit is against the terms of service that you agreed to when signing up for the service.

If by hacking you mean attacking or gaining access to other people's computer systems without their knowledge or permission, then it is illegal. Programmers have another meaning for "hacking". Good night!

It depends on what type of hacking you are refering to, the term hacking is way! overrated...not all hackers are bad, There it alot of hacking that is illegal such as entering someones machine without permission from the owner or hacking a website but alot of people know how to hack so that they can protect their system from a hacker...it takes a hacker to stop a hacker...

i believe you're talking about 'cracking' also (there is a difference), and yes it is definately illegal if you are stealing informations, even stealing a person's password and not doing anything at all on their computer is illegal. Google it and you will certainly get some interesting hits.
