I am about to have a baby girl and I want To name her after my granny Gussie but I want to add a twist to the name so it won't sound so old and plain

You could try naming her a name like Augusta, Gussandra, Gussanne or a middle name like August, then just call her Gussie for short. A more modern name that you can make shorter for Gussie...but that is a hard one to modernize. Good luck!
