OK, I have read enough in the past couple of months to make my head explode! But I would like a few experinced opinions. I am doing my first PC build, and I'm kind of stumped on a motherboard. I'm going with an E6600 Core 2 duo CPU, a 300GB Seagate HD, and I intend to run Windows XP. I am just not ready to deal with all the bugs I have read about with Vista yet. I may upgrade later. I am not a hard core gamer, so overclocking is not REAL important to me, but I wouldn't mind having the option if I choose to do so. I plan on going with 2GB of DDR2 ram, maybe more in the future. I mainly just want a reliable MB, with a little 'wiggle room' if I decide to make some tweaks later on. I should also note, I have already purchased a 550W power supply. Is that enough? I will run 2 DVD drives, and a mid level video card. Gaming is not important, so no SLI. All of my drives will be SATA. I will also be running 3-4 fans, and most likley a fan controller and a couple of cold cathode lights. Thanks!

I'm about to do my 6th build and I usually consult this guide.

550W is fine. Just make sure the power supply is at least ATX V2.01 so it would have dual +12V rails. ATX V2.2 or 2.3 would be best.

Check out this motherboard - for the price and good reviews - a very good socket 775 board without SLI.

Stick with ASUS mobos they are pretty dependable. Just match the mobo socket to the processor and make sure that it has enough SATA ports for all your gear.
