Using nukes under any circumstances against Al Quaeda is completely pointless. The only two nukes ever used offensively were used against Japan. The first one might have been necessary (and I'm Japanese), but the second one wasn't and it's a tragedy that is still remembered by many people today.

The U.S's world opinion will become even worse and may even end up starting a full on nuclear war.

Considering that most Al Qaeda camps are small, nukes would be unnecessary. Using a nuke against an Al Qaeda camp would be akin to driving a truck into a wall to kill a fly - lots of long term damage and "the fly" will probably get away.

Nuking a cell faction organization will accomplish nothing except put us in a negative spotlight against the rest of the world. This terrorist organization is NOT centrally located and operates globally. To nuke any random location where they have operations will just be more nuclear fallout in the area, damaging the area for years to come. No one wants alpha and beta radiation spread all over an area for no good reason, it would hurt world opinion.

What Obama meant is clear on the chart! He does not want to create extra troubles! This is what America did for decades...CREATING TROUBLES WITH FOREIGN COUNTRIES!!! It is time to stop and consider Americas own welfare...which is not that perfect at all!

People who say we should nuke everyone...are just dumb...because they do not know what is living in a city which has been nuked...my uncle was a volunteer in Chernobil events...even today he has serious skin-heart diseases...

Laurence...first you should search about the real instigators of 9/11...and at least watch Fahrengeiht 9/11 that was banned in US (no wonder why)...lol Then you can nuke those who are guilty...but plz run away from your country so that you dont get disease!

I'm not for "nuking" anything. However, I feel that Mr. Obama has an on going habit, of blurting out proclamations before he has done his research. He's got Pakistan in an uproar because of something he said, and he's not even in a political position to follow through with his statement.

It is wise.

The biggest key to wining the War on Terror is winning the hearts and minds of the people of the Middle East. We won't win this war without it. With this in mind, telling those people that we are willing to nuke their countryside, exposing their backyards and rivers with fallout, for the sake of destroying some shanty training camp or cave does not go much in the way of convincing them that we are reasonable and have their best interest in mind.

Those who compare this to telling the Soviet Union that we wouldn't use nukes on them only show their ignorance- the kind of ignorance that has put us into so much trouble in Iraq. We are not fighting legions of troops in formation, or groups of tanks, or fortifications and bunkers. We aren't fighting a centralized government. We are fighting guerilla warriors who try to illicit the help of the local people, and if we lose those locals we lose the war. As such, those people need to understand that we are reasonable people, that we are not the Great Satan occupiers Osama says we are.

Or, maybe we should just tell those people, whose democracies we are trying to build, that we are willing to use Agent Orange and nerve gas if necessary.

Maybe it's not the right time to remember that in fact America has never really won a single war in ASIA...I think because
1) America doesn't understand this part of the world coz unlike other European countries ( UK, France, Holland, Turkey , Portugal) has never had colonies and never administrated Asia
2) the only Eastern war America "won" it was against Japan(second world war) and they had to drop the atomic bomb to put an end of it

So maybe Obama statement was not that weak or stupid

p.s. with the exception of the 1991 Gulf war...

How the heck do you "nuke" al qiada ?. If there was a Republic of Al Qaeda, it would be in ruins now, no matter which president we had.

Using nuclear weapons against terrorists only adds civilian casualties and collateral damage. Obama seems to know what he's doing.

America has to realise that in past wars in Europe the cities in America were untouched by bombing, unlike the cities in Europe. If you as a nation start throwing nuclear weapons about then you may find out what being bombed is like.
War is not a game and statements like yours should be treated with disdain.

Stupid! Ike made the same mistake back in the '50s against N.Korea; but he was already President when he did it. It gave the ChiComs and the N.Koreans too much info which info *should* have been classified: "Top Secret, Eyes Only"!

It was alright to have that as a policy; but, as good of a general as Ike was, he was too naive to handle diplomacy properly! It's kind of like the Dems wanting to tell al-Qaeda the day and hour we're going to pull our troops out of Iraq, even though, as seasoned politicians, *they* know better!
