To correct another answer, Apl spent the first 14 years of his life growing up in a poor Pampanga town, so he technically did NOT grow up in the US.
Pampango may have been his primary language during those early years--not tagalog.
He was adopted by an American family and spent high school in the LA area. He has a slight American accent (with a So. California inflection) when he speaks tagalog (like me) but I can understand him fine.

Well is correct. He spent the early part of his teen years in Pampanga and was adopted by an American family. He still can speak fluent Tagalog with a slight western accent. I heard him sing in videos.

He is from Pampanga. He knows Pampango probably better than Tagalog.

He knows Tagalog but that may not be the dialect he spoke at home. He migrated to the US in his early teens I think.
