Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach are two large complexes that have lots of dining, shopping, and other forms of entertainment. Some highlights include: Margaritaville, Hard Rock Cafe and House of Blues. The one with the Hard Rock used to have fireworks most nights. haven't been there in years, so that may be different now.
Other than that, it's just the usual shore stuff: mini golf, water sports, lots of bars, etc... What really made Myrtle Beach popular in the beginning was it's golfing, but a family of 4 probably wouldn't have much of an interest in that.

We like to play a family game when we go there: "Name the White Trash."
The person who correctly names the most Donna's, Betsy's, and Kirk's, wins the game.
