Why can the bible stop 2 people from getting married. It has been proven unconstitutional to use religion to deny the right to vote, or allow slavery. Why is it acceptable to use religion to stop 2 men from being married?

From what I remember, Exodus 24:10-16 and 2 Corinthians 6:14 were used as "biblical justification" for banning interreligious marriage in the US for some time.

Should we disallow people of different religion to get married because it is in the bible?

Not to mention wearing clothes made out of more than two types of fabrics, shaving, cutting your hair or keeping it long, or even planting two types of crop on a single plot of land. Honestly, no Christian I have ever seen follows the Bible, why should everyone else have to?

I simply do not understand why the bible can be used to justify marriage... why does 1 religion dictate everyone else's life???

I am not gay. Please do not tell me that homosexuality is an abomination, it's a garbage excuse.

I don't agree with a lot of your statements. I am a liberal, but believe in the Bible. I don't understand your statement about the Bible and the right to vote... I don't see where one has anything to do with the other.
Homosexuality is considered a sin by the Christian faith. That being said, why would the Bible then support gay marriage? Can you please quote specifically where the bible says you cannot wear clothes out of 2 types of fabric, cannot shave or cut your hair??? One religion doesn't "dictate everyone else's life". People who believe in that religion believe in the Bible and adopt that lifestyle of their own free will. The Bible is supportive of marriage - one of the important reasons is procreation. Can't really accomplish that in a gay marriage. How about you read and understand the bible a little better before attacking it.

If you look at the history of law in the U.S. you will see that much of it is based on religion. For example why is prostitution illegal in most states. And as for, "why does 1 religion dictate everyone else's life???" It doesn't. Which 1 religion do you think it is. Again, going back to the start of this country it was a place where all religions were welcomed. The debate for and against same sex marriage is classic. The law generally reflects the time. I think we will see same sex marriage legalized in the next few years/decades.

No, it's not an abomination, but your sense of things are. Look, I know plenty of Atheist Conservatives (that right there discrediting your whole question) and plenty of religious Conservatives as well, NONE of them enforce their beliefs on others, discuss and debate, yes. Enforce? No. However, for Liberals, I find that many try to enforce THEIR beliefs on those that do not agree with them. People like yourself claim to be liberal yet are the MOST close minded people I have ever seen. Especially those like you, claiming "seperation of church and state" while saying stuff like "religion is evil! it kills it brainwashes!" In other words, wanting to ban it entirely. Look, religion is a main part of human society, the world over.

Our laws are based on christian values.I'm not a christian but I don't see anything wrong with basing our laws like that. Most of the religious slogans like "In God We Trust" are more of an American tradition.Besides,if our laws were not based on any kind of religion then what do we base them on? christianity was just the religion that our four fathers believed in. As for gay marriage,I agree that they should be allowed to get married, but not yet, strictly for their protection. Most of America is just not ready to accept it yet.It must be gradually introduced to society, and domestic partnership is a good start. But it just can't be thrown straight in.We have to wait.Every year Homosexuality seems to be more acceptable in this country,we just need to wait until the approval rating is high enough.

First, you are generalizing. I am a Conservative and I am not religious. I do believe in God, but do not except the bible. Second, not every argument against gay marriage is rooted in religion.

I am against gay marriage. I believe it goes against the natural order of things. There is a reason why men and women have inter-connecting parts. I really don't care if people want to be gay that is their choice as consenting adults. I also don't care if they want to have a civil union which allows them to leverage the same rights and benefits enjoyed by married couples. I am not in any way offended by gay people, nor do I wish to offend them myself, but I feel that marriage should be defined as being between a man and a woman because this satisfies what nature obviously intended in the matter.

Unfortunately most of our laws and morality has it foundation in the bible, thou shall not kill, steal, commit adultery etc, most of the ills in society is because more and more people are ignoring these laws.

Once you start to dilute these laws then society slowly starts to unravel. The say that those that do not study history are sentence to repeat it when I read your question it reminds me of the hippies in the 60's whose mantra was just do it as long as it feels good, well time has shown that this attitude is not the best thing for society with a few generations of illegitimate children epidemic sexual decease, and broken marriages everywhere I guess there will be new idiots being born everyday that will think that these ideas that you expose are unique and enlightening.

My opposition to gay marriage has nothing to do with the Bible. It's based on reality. Marriage has always been a union between a man and a woman, because it's most vital for a healthy and productive society.

According to the Constitution any law banning inter faith marriages was declared illegal years ago. And i see no laws preventing same sex relationships. You should spend less time on the bible and more time reading the Constitution. Oh and there are conservatives that do not have a strict biblical idealogy. You listen to too many liberal Democrats.

Let me guess you are BI-SEXUAL but not gay, what is the differences. If you are neither gay or bi why should you care or want two men to have sex with each other. I could care less about the bible it's not about that with everyone you know. When i see two men on TV and they go to kiss i look away just like i look away when two women kiss. The whole thing just isn't right by me I'm not speaking for anyone else this is my personal feelings about the matter.
