Some people do others don't, what do you think? I don't think it's a sport, I always thought it was encouragement for real sports. (football, basketball, etc.) Sometimes even a distraction for those sports.

Cheerleaders have compititions??? I never knew that before I asked this question! I reconsider my former opinion.

OH MY GOSH YES!! THEY DO COMPETE YOU KNOW! I THINK A TEAM/SQUAD THAT COMPETES IS CONSIDERED A SPORT. DANCE IS CONSIDERED A SPORT TOO SOMETIMES. THEY COMPETE.

I think cheerleading is a real sport in certain contexts. The cheerleading competitions I've seen sure look alot like sports. But it does have an artistic element. I also consider figure skating a sport and some people don't. But cheerleading looks like it requires hours of practice and physical exertion...just because it is done in support of other sports doesn't mean its not a sport in itself, might just be underappreciated.

If you have ever been a cheerleader than you would say YES. It is very physically demanding and there are competitions all the time. Do you think Golf or bowling are sports? of course they are.

Although I have never been a cheerleader I do think it is a sport. Cheerleaders have to be in great shape and train hard to perfect their moves.

If they're just waving pom-poms and chanting "go go go!" in unison, it really isn't a sport. If they are doing athletic stuff, then it might be a watered-down sport.

To me, it's a lot of exercise & energy, but I still don't consider it a sport.
