"A bridge in America just shouldn't fall down" said Sen. Amy Klobuchar, a Minnesota Democrat.
Sadly this is yet another example of the assumption that anything in the US must be bigger, better, safer etc than something similar in other parts of the world.

Why are we even trying to play the blame game here? I mean the Bush administration has already tried to blame the dems on this matter. The situation is this, our infrastructure is falling apart, people. We had a tunnel blow up in NYC last week and this bridge in Minnesota happening yesterday. this shouldn't be happening in America. That is true. We have the money or we had the money to repair these things and our country should be a priority over fixing Iraq which is where all our money is going to these days. Come on, this isn't going to be the end of it. This is just a beginning. Yes, there is plenty of blame to go around: State and Federal. But lets face it, if we want to prevent this from happening, the American people are going to have to get their priorities right and stop invading countries that have nothing to do with 9/11 or terrorism or anything else that is threatening to the U.S And, they are going to have to get wise to the idea that the corporate power interests are in charge of your govnerment and they don't give a crap about you because you don't care enough about your own country or rights. If you are satisfied with these politicians, keep voting them in. But when more bridges and tunnels, roads and buildings start falling apart, you only have yourselves to blame for not giving a crap about your own country's interior.

Well, that's easy to say...that's why a politician (dem or rep) would rush to say it. The reality is this country has 600,000+ bridges and the funding for inspecting and maintaining them has been cut since we've begun funding wars in Afghanistan AND Iraq. Even in America, there are only so many dollars to go around.
That said, Minneapolis officials say the collapsed bridge had been inspected within the last year. I'd like to know why they didn't find evidence of the bridge's precarious state.

Jon B. the Democrats just took control of the congress, this bridge thing goes back to 1990. The cities officials were notified back then they had serious problems, That was 17 years ago! The city government officials should swing for this one! Where did they spend the money? Follow the money and you'll find out who the money grabbing scumbags are! they mis-appropriated the funds, or spent it on some junket trip with their bimbo's

No, you are not right.
Seems like every time there is a problem in this country, the dems/reps or libs/cons blame each other. This doesn't solve anything. Part of the reason this country has so many problems is that people keep dividing when solutions call for people uniting.
The bridge disaster is an infrastructure problem, not a political problem. Let's pull together and fix this country's problems.

Minnesota has been a liberal state for years - yet they could never find time or money to fix their aging bridges. However, they found the money to build a brand new football stadium.

Bridges collapse, brand new tunnels leak water and drop cement tiles on the passing vehicles, balconies fall off buildings, pets and people get electrocuted on sewer covers and metal grates - and stairways collapse onto the lower floors - perhaps we should rethink our present policy of not holding anyone responsible for these "accidents" and always looking but never finding someone else to blame?
Contractors, engineers, suppliers, inspectors, etc...etc.....surely someone is asleep at the wheel.

Oy vey. Lets keep the politics out of this. It's disgusting. The point she was making was that a country with the wealth and resources of the US shouldn't have bridges that just collapse, killing it's citizens. You're choosing to see that comment as a political comment which is pathetic.

Are you going to blame GWB for this bridge falling, too. Why isn't this Amy looking after her people (and her bridges) back at home? Busy "networking" in D.C. ?

To Marianne T: Haven't you heard? Haliburton brought it down on orders by Bush and Cheney. They had heard that a liberal with secret, incriminating evidence on Pat Tillman's death would be driving across it at that exact moment!
