Too many times I've been wondering why they had designed their flag with just one color.

The green color is the symbol for Islam which emphasizes the long devotion and respect of people to their religion. Green is also the national color of the country. The first national flag of modern Libya was adopted in 1951, when the country gained independence. The symbols and colors on the Libyan flag have constantly been changing until 1977 when the current one was adopted. The green color also stands for Gaddafi's “Green Revolution”.

"...on November 11, 1977 the flag was changed to the current all-green design in reaction to Sadat's visit to Israel."

Marcelino's answer is totally right. But I wanted to add another religious detail. The green flag - the color of Islam and the revolution - is an important color for Arabian states, because of the lack of rain and grass. As you know, Libya consists the 98% of desert. The green color symbolizes the glory of fruitfulness and fertility given to the country by god (Libya is the richest African country).

Marcelino says it right. Perhaps, I may add: There's no law or convention or whatever that requires national flags to have more than one color, is there?

They're "color blind". Isn't it obvious?! :)
