The Cubs can win the division and go to the playoffs, or they can go as a wild card. Cubs fans should keep an eye on the potential wild card teams because if they do not finish ahead of the Brewers and win the division, than they have to have the best won and lost record of the non division winners to go to the NL playoffs as a wild card.

There is a lot of baseball to be played yet. They are the leader of the division right now so the wild card isn't a big deal. If they keep playing good baseball and the Brewers keep sliding then the Cubs won't have to worry about the wild card race.

the wild card absolutely still matters...and very much so. If for some reason they arent able to secure the division title the wild card is their only other chance at the playoffs. And besides that, who wins the wildcard may determine who they play later in the playoffs...if they do win the division.
But as their own manager put it--to much emphasis is put on the teams position at the beginning of august...there is still two months of baseball to be played

You may hear talk of a wild card because they are only one game up on the Brewers in their division. If the Brewers take over first place, they have to fight with (probably) Atlanta, and Arizona/LA for the Wild Card. On paper, Atlanta looks like the team to watch out for in the playoffs as they just picked up Texeira.

you shouldn't be worrying about wild card right now. the cubs need to keep winning for another month. i wouldn't worry about any of this yet...there's still a lot of baseball to go before playoffs come.

It IS just one percentage point. If you can get a few games ahead you can start looking forward. Be careful about those chickens. Not only do they not count till they hatch, they come home to roost, too.

It doesn't matter. They need to go out there, and try and win every game.
