LMAO - one more reason you don't give yourself a nickname Detroit fans. You aren't even hockeytown USA any more. Move over Buffalo is the new king.

Yes Mr G it is a snail but it's a fast one LOL

I'd say the numbers are there:

----------

As a kid growing up in Hamilton, I remember going to many games in Detroit in the late 80s. Moving down from the nose-bleeds to great seats was easy to do then. I also went to games in the Aud back then and tickets were available, but moving down was not as easy.

I moved back to Hamilton in 2001 -- thanks to Bush.

Buffalo is about 70 miles southeast of Hamilton, so I get all the Buffalo radio/television, so I am Buffalo-informed. I think the fans have always been there since day 1 of the Sabres inception. They had their down years when Adelphia Cable tried to bury the team. Overall I would say it is a good football and hockey town.

My point is that all teams in all sports have highs and lows. Look at the Blue Jays -- crowds are thin today compared to the World Series days. It happens, even in Hockeytown, the Bronx, and The City of Angels.

Reputations are hard to shake. Let Buffalo have her moment...

It's nice that a writer thinks Buffalo is a great hockey town, but players unfortunately don't agree. In a poll this season, Buffalo ranked with Edmonton as the least desirable places to play, and that's a heck of a lot more important than what a guy says in his column. You can have a great rep, but what good does it do you when players like Briere and Drury leave for greener pastures?

I like the city of Buffalo a lot - my wife is from Fort Erie and we have family across the border - but it has an undeserved reputation as an unplesant place to make a living in hockey.

Detroit might be hockey town.

Buffalo has the true fans...no its not Toronto where games have been sold out for years and years. When you have game five of a series at home and your on the verge of elimination and you have 18,000+ people inside and you have another 10,000+ people outside just watch a big screen and standing for 3 hours. That must say something about our fans yearning to have our team bring home the cup to Buffalo.

I guess you have to be from Buffalo and feel the love of sports in the area, and the love of sports in general.
I know this is not hockey, but.... How many bills games are sold out already?? We are a city our who loves our sports teams. If you are not from Buffalo, swing by some time, eat some pizza and wings, drink a Blue and realize there are no fans like Buffalo fans!

"Anomaly? Not considering Buffalo's rating for the All-Star Game was 7.1, while the next-best market number was Pittsburgh's 2.8."

I especially like this statement. An anomaly? Heck no, not after Buffalo decided to stuff the ballot boxes over and over to get Sabres in the game.
Sorry but I am still sore about the travesty of Miller starting the All-Star game over Brodeur. That is ridiculous.
Where were those numbers 5 years ago and where will they be in coming years, especially if they start their losing ways again?
No doot aboot it, Buffalo had alot of people interested in hockey with 2 solid years in a row.
I'll avoid lumping them with the likes of Toronto, Montreal or Philly in terms of support until I see their numbers during a horrible season.

Yet the only year Buffalo had 100% attendance the past few years was this year, I guess thats when hockey became cool there.

The entire article was totally worth reading because of this line: "Gary Bettman would Riverdance from Erie to Ontario."
I'll be laughing about that for a while. Thanks!
