Don't be in too big a hurry to rid your basement of spiders. They only camp out where there's a reliable food source. If you nuke or otherwise chase away the spiders, what other bugs will be crawling up your stairs and into your kitchen, bathroom and bedroom? Check the spider webs and see what bugs have been caught in them. Roaches, flies, silverfish and moths are most common. You might be a little more comfortable with the spiders, too, if you identified them so you could feel sure they are harmless to people and pets.

Raid makes an insect bomb (can of spray) that kills spiders, roaches, flies, etc. for an entire season. It discharges in a fine mist that also goes into cracks and corners killing all the insects. I use them under my house and never have to worry about the pesky creatures. Be sure and follow instructions on the can and your problem should be solves with ease. You will probably need to use more than one can of spray per treatment.

Spray ordinary household bleach in a hand sprayer. Watch out for the fumes. It will keep spiders away.

It is rather expensive, but Amway has one of the best bug sprays ever made. Check their web site for a rep in your area. My dad always bought this and it kept all of the creepy crawlies out of our house....even the black widow spiders....yuck.
